We were contacted by the builder of this Tuscan inspired home in Bountiful, UT to help them solve a major design issue. As they were building the home, they realized that the architect had not allowed enough room in the plans for the original stair design. So they needed someone who could design an entirely new staircase that would fit in the available space, meet code, and still be a beautiful addition to the home. Due to the height of the stair, building code required that it have a landing, which added to the complexity, but Bishop Woodcraft was up for the challenge! We were able to design a brand new stair, frame it in, and build it out to fit each requirement. The design included ¾” steel round custom balusters with a hand-painted finish, which combined five different colors and layers of paint to create an antiqued look. The railings, stringers, and treads were all Alder. A unique feature of the design is that from the top of the stair to the bottom neither the handrail or the stringers have any pitch changes or kinks at any point, giving it a continuously smooth flow.
